20.04.2023

On April 20, an online event has taken place, dedicated to adaptation to climate change within Ukraine’s green renovation. Non-government organizations have developed guidelines for green renovation in six hromadas and Ukrainian cities, with consideration of climate change adaptation. They have brought their works to publicity, Ekoltava being among them.

Analyst from Ekoltava, Nadiya Hroza, has estimated the vulnerability to climate change of Sumska urban territorial hromada. As to her, the biggest climate threats there are the rise of air temperature and flooding.

According to data from Sumy regional weather bureau, during the last 30 years mean air temperature in hromada has risen by 0.8 centigrade degree. And this increase equally regards to warm and cold period. The analysis of hromada’s susceptibility, its 9 aspects (water, artificial environment, biodiversity, traffic, energy, industry, health, agriculture, tourism), has led to a conclusion that hromada is vulnerable to temperature rise, so urgent adaptation measures are needed to change the status quo.

“Considering this, Ukraine’s green renovation should definitely cover climate aspect and take into account local vulnerability to certain climate threats”, – claims analyst, Ekoltava, Nadiya Hroza.

We repeat that in 2021 Ekoltava has estimated the plan of long-term economic development for Sumy. So we hope that our outcomes are used for the updated plan, too.

Within the event, Ekodiya has announced the thoughts of publicity concerning climate change adaptation as a part of Ukraine’s post-war renovation supported by non-government organizations from all over the country.

The event and implementation of projects have been possible thanks to financial support from German ministry of economics and climate within the project “International Climate Initiatives (ІКІ).
