Svydovets’ is saved from construction
24.07.20225 years of ecoactivists struggling against builders turned out a success!
In 2017 it had been planned to construct the biggest European ski resort within Carpathian mountain massif. The project was ready, yet it was never presented to locals and lawyers, and there was little to no public hearings where civil activists and locals could make a speech.
Svydovets’ is one of Carpathians’ highest ridges with primeval Alpine nature and traces of ancient glaciation, an important European natural object. Ski resort would not only destroy Svydovets’s nature, but bring deteriorating harm to river system of Black Tysa and have a negative impact on climate.
To avert this, activists, non-government organizations, local entrepreneurs have united into protest movement Free Svydovets and struggled for more than 5 years against authorities and oligarchs. In particular, traditional 2019 Green Camp by Ekoltava was dedicated to preservation of Svydovets’. So we were happy to know that on July 19, 2022 Zakarpats’ky county administrative court has quashed the resolution from heads of Tiachivs’ka and Rakhivs’ka regional state administrations on construction of tourism and recreation complex “Svydovets’”.
It is a big triumph that once again proves: united efforts and love for nature can change our country to better!
