Research «Climate (in)justice: the impact of climate change on vulnerable social groups in Ukrainian cities»
12.01.2021The authors — non-government organisation Ekoltava and analytical centre Cedos, all supported by Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung Ukraine Bureau Kyjiv — Ukraine — have come together to define how climate change affects the social life, its comfort, economic conditions of people with various physical and social capabilities who suffer from climate (in)justice in Ukraine. The authors have developed a number of guidelines for administrations of cities, non-government organisations that address socially vulnerable people, and charity organisations.
The report contains the analysis of climate impact on various spheres of urban living, in particular employment, urban mobility, public areas, housing policies, health protection and social service. Examples are given, how this situation diverges with the tendency for climate change and the frequency of its manifestations in cities. This very divergence of urban development and climate change generates social inequity, which by-turn necessitates social consequences.
