Ekoltava and Greenpeace appealed to Finland to ban Russian gas
05.05.2022On May, 4 CEO, NGO “Ekoltava” Yuliya Mel’nyk took part in a protest action in Helsinki by Finnish Greenpeace #StopFuelingWar. Activists have appealed to country’s biggest private state energy enterprise Fortum and Finnish government with Prime Minister Sanna Marin to stop nourishing war in Ukraine through buying Russian fossils – natural gas, oil, coal.
Activists have fixed a large title “Stop fueling war” on Fortum’s main office and have written these words on a landing site, so that it is visible for employees every day.
Numerous passers-by stopped and uttered their support for Ukrainians, denouncing at the same time the policy of Finnish company and government feeble political position.
“Ukrainians can not wait. Every single day people die, become refugees, and lose their friends. Fortum is obviously not ready to work for salvation of Ukrainians and their country, so I ask Finnish government: how come Finnish state company support Russian aggression against Ukraine?” — claimed Yuliya Mel’nyk.
Since April, Ukrainian activists of Coalition “Energy transition”, Ekodiya, Ekoklub have meetings with German and Finnish politicians, and as well with representatives from energy companies UNIPER (Germany) and Fortum (Finland), that are among the biggest European purchasers of Russian natural gas.
The basic condition is the same – ban Russian energy sources in order to stop war in Ukraine and preserve country’s territorial unity.
We appeal to politicians to faster transition to renewable energy sources, since fossils fuels feed all wars, primarily provoke climate change and support dictatorship.
