In Lviv, the outcomes of the first Ukrainian school of MWM were presented

On March 29, 2024 in Lviv, there took place a final event by School of municipal waste management (MWM), a project implemented by NGO «Ekoltava» under support from USAID project «HOVERLA». This is the first Ukrainian-made curriculum of the kind, that regards to integral waste management in hromadas. Within the event, the organizers summarized the outcomes of School, and representatives from participating hromadas demonstrated their newly designed Roadmaps. These documents will become a ground for future Local waste management plans. Roadmaps had been developed together with leading Ukrainian experts of the branch: Yuliya Makovetska, Viktor Hudenets, Tetiana Omelyanenko, and Dmytro Laznenko.

The developers of 7 best Roadmaps won for their hromadas compost bins for biowaste. These are Vynohradivska, Hoshchanska, Dobroslavska, Yemilchynska, Irshanska, Koretska, Senchanska territorial hromada. 

The participants of the final event by School of MWM have also discussed relevant challenges in local waste management, their probable overcoming, and potential future cooperation between hromadas.

We remind that School of municipal waste management was launched in October 2023, and became a part of large program for higher competence of local self-government bodies in the field of efficient municipal waste management. During their training, students from 65 hromadas of 7 Ukrainian regions were acquiring theoretical knowledge under the mentorship of leading experts in the branch, and learned to use it practically by completing home assignments. The results were Roadmaps for future Local waste management plans.

Project «Support of local waste management system» is implemented by NGO «Ekoltava» under support from USAID project «HOVERLA» and is pointed at higher competence of local self-government bodies in the field of efficient municipal waste management. The participants are employees of local self-government bodies from Poltavska, Rivnenska, Zhytomyrska, Volynska, Lvivska, Zakarpatska, and Odeska regions.
