Ekoltava and four future waste processing plants in Poltava region

For some time, regional and national officials have talked about construction of four waste processing plants in Poltava region.

As for now, the discussion is mostly pointed at the development of Regional waste management plan (RWMP).

This is basic strategic document of regional importance, which is to solve waste issues in all hromadas.

It stipulates construction of four waste processing plants in Poltava region, anticipatorily in Lubenska, Kremenchutska, Poltavska, and Kobeliatska hromadas. Though, it is not yet known where they are exactly constructed, what will they be like, and who are the investors. These aspects are beyond discussion unless the Plan is developed and approved.

This urgent project develops, and Ekoltava accurately watches it and participates in a working group on development of Regional waste management plan for Poltava region.

In particular, during the recent session in Poltava regional military administration experts from Ekoltava, Maryna Sadkina and Nadiya Hroza, as members of working group, have approved requirements specification for development of Regional waste management plan for Poltava region and the respective investment project. Heads of mentioned hromadas have reported on allocation of land plots for these facilities.

In the future, we shall cover every stage of this project of top urgency for the region.

As for next step, Ekoltava will submit proposals for development of Regional waste management plan. It contains premises for development of local plans in hromadas of Poltava region. Ekoltava will work on development of high-quality and efficient documents.

The proposals are based on key clauses of NGO “Ekoltava” regarding the development of strategical documents in the field of waste management:

• development of documents according to relevant Ukrainian legislation;
• use of terms and notions approved by relevant Ukrainian legislation;
• use of top and affordable technologies and methods;
• analysis of initial conditions that takes into account regional peculiarities; thorough analysis of current state of waste management system;
• involvement of ultimate logistics with accounted quality of roadways, and distances between waste-generating and waste-processing facilities;
• Strategic ecological assessment and public discussions are integral parts of development of strategic documentation in the field of waste management.
