Local waste management reform: Ekoltava has held meetings with 5 hromadas of Poltava region

In Ukraine, recently there has been launched a project “Support of local waste management system”, implemented by NGO “Ekoltava” under support from USAID project “HOVERLA”

To give general information about the process of reformation of waste management, novelties of its local implementing, Ekoltava has held founding meetings with representatives from Dykanska, Orzhytska, Senchanska, Lubenska, Myrhorodska hromadas, which take part of the project.

On the meeting, heads of hromadas have spoken on relevant state of waste management system and challenges encountered on local level. Also, Ekoltava’s team has presented basic stages of project implementing, opportunities for training, mentorship, and further development of roadmaps and Local waste management plans.

A reminder:  Project “Support of local waste management system” is pointed at higher competence of local self-government bodies in effective management of municipal waste. Regions that participate in the Project – Rivnenska, Poltavska, Lvivska, Odeska, Zhytomyrska, Zakarpatska and Volynska.

Within the Project “Support of local waste management system”, representatives from 65 hromadas will improve their skills in effective waste management in Municipal waste management school (MWM). More to that, 4 hromadas selected on a competitive basis will get a chance to develop their Local waste management plans, under support from experts of the project. The rest of participants of MWM School will develop Roadmaps and get more information about waste management reform.

USAID project «HOVERLA» provides help for Ukrainian government in decentralization through support of local self-government bodies which strive to higher competence, accountability before publicity, and efficient service.
