Ekoltava has held an annual coordination meeting with hromadas

On August 11, in Poltava Ekoltava’s annual coordination meeting with hromadas has been held. The participants have discussed local implementing of green solutions in the time of warfare. 

“The issue is relevant as for now, as numerous Ukrainian hromadas have suffered from war crimes perpetrated by russia, – comments project manager, “Higher institutional competence of NGO “Ekoltava” for advocation of green solutions”, Maryna Sadkina. – Eco-friendly solutions need special attention, as environment protection and available energy-saving solutions for hromadas are prior issues, especially when on the brink of heating season”. 

Participants from 20 territorial hromadas of Poltava region took part in the meeting. Together with experts from Ekoltava, they’ve discussed aspects of waste management, climate change adaptation, food security and other.

Executive director, NGO «Ekoltava», Yuliya Melnyk has demonstrated the outcomes of research «Waste and war», which lasted since November, 2022 till June, 2023. Experts from Ekoltava have been studying the increase in the generation of waste in host hromadas in the time of russian aggression, taking Poltava and Lviv as example. Among the other, they have analysed the morphological composition of waste, sorting in humanitarian hubs, alternatives for disposable household plastic, etc. 

Special attention in the meeting has been payed to implementing of energy effective solutions in hromadas. Expert in energy efficiency, Mykhaylo Lukyanyk, NGO «Ekoklub», has spoken on the best applied practices in the field. 

We remind our readers that Ekoltava’s coordination meeting with hromadas is held on a repeated basis. Year by year, our organization conducts it with involved representatives from hromadas in order to talk over relevant issues and challenges of their daily job, and to find possible solutions.
