Ekoltava has launched the first Ukrainian online course “Healthy and sustainable nutrition”

02.05.2023

Ekoltava, within the project Austausch e.V. “Promotion of climate education in Eastern Europe”, under the support of German Ministry of foreign affairs, has launched an online course “Healthy and sustainable nutrition”.

Choosing healthy foodstuff, evading traps by marketeers in marts, discovering harmless sweets, learning wasteless cookery and eco-friendly diet all this and many more in online course by well-known Ukrainian biologist, health advocate, author of “Optimistically on health”, Darka Ozerna.

Did you know that cheap sweets make millions of orangutans in Indonesia homeless? Do you have any idea about wasteless cuisine? Or you may have guessed that labels “eco” faintly deal with ecology? We have set the goal – to teach the participants to choose and process proper foodstuff that is good for our health, our environment, and our bank accounts. This is why we’ve tried to make this course as practical and informative as only possible.” – says project manager, NGO “Ekoltava”, Maryna Sadkina

Video lessons, extra materials, and practical assignments will guide the participants through world’s “green” nutrition trends.

“Nutrition is an everyday issue for any person. Therefore, sustainable daily diet is among the most important components of eco-friendly living. By sticking to it, one can considerably shrink his or her footprint and the amount of waste. This is why we longed for this course, so that as many as possible could contribute, through small deeds, to their health and the environment”, – says project coordinator for Austausch e. V., Mariya Rudz.

Over 250 participants from all over Ukraine have applied for the course. We’ve chosen 50 most motivated people for the first share. They are teachers, members of NGOs, journalists, people who care about their health and environment. Participation in online course is still free of charge in 2023. Later we plan to modify the course to make it eligible for unassisted mastering by larger audience.

Our health derives not from a hospital – it results from our daily actions, but also depends on genes and our nearest environment. The environment, in turn, depends on our actions, too, so urbanism and nature protection also regard to human health and thus, to my professional concern. Sustainable nutrition deals equally with human health, and with environment, and with society, and our overall well-being,” – accounts the author, “Healthy and sustainable nutrition”, Darka Ozerna.

The participants who complete all tasks get their certificate. Ekoltava would like them to become “agents of change” in their hromadas, households or workplaces. That is, being adherents of healthy and sustainable diet and attracting to it the attention of their relatives, friends, colleagues, and neighbours.

The online course is developed within project Austausch e.V. “Promotion of climate education in Eastern Europe” implemented by NGO “Ekoltava” in Ukraine under support from German Ministry of foreign affairs.
