Ekoltava starts on inspection of waste during wartime

30.11.2022

Experts from NGO «Ekoltava» work on inspection of morphology of solid municipal waste in Poltava.

Beginning from November 1, promoted by International fund «Vidrodzhennia» and financially supported by Sweden, together with Zero Waste Lviv, Ekoltava has launched the project «Inspection of solid waste management sector in host hromadas in the time of russian aggression in Ukraine». Whereas Poltava and Lviv had hosted a considerable number of internally displaced persons, this has influenced the amount of generated waste.

The works with involved experts take place on a ground of CMTE-1628 in village Makukhivka, the location of region’s largest landfill. From general amount of waste specialists take sample volume, 300-400 kilograms. This weight is separated into components: food leftovers, paper and cardboard, plastics, fabrics, wood, hazardous waste (batteries, mercury bulbs, dry-charged and electrochemical batteries) and other. The filled bags are then weighted, and so the qualitative composition of waste from Poltava is known.

The outcomes of the research will be brought to public by «Ekoltava» on its official website and pages on social networks.
